Are All Paleo Meals To Go Gluten Free?

Our products are all inherently gluten free by design meaning they include no ingredients which contain gluten. Paleo Meals To Go meals are produced in a USDA-inspected packaging facility that employs Good Manufacturing Practices to eliminate cross contamination. All product labeling has been approved by the USDA/FDA with the following claims: gluten-free, soy-free, milk-free, grain-free and some meals are also nut-free. Our meals have been submitted to the University of Colorado Food Processing Lab for further analysis to confirm a < 20ppm gluten threshold and we routinely conduct in-house gluten testing utilizing the The EZ Gluten TM Test kit, an easy to use kit that quickly detects the presence of gluten in foods and beverages. It is sensitive enough to detect levels of gluten as low as 10 ppm. The test is small and portable enough for use at restaurants or when traveling, and is sensitive and robust enough for use in industry and food manufacturing. The EZ Gluten TM Assay has been validated and certified as a Performance Tested Method SM (#051101) by the AOAC Research Institute as an effective method for the detection of gluten in a wide variety of foods and environmental surfaces.

Why is Freeze-drying Better Than Dehydrating Foods?

Freeze-drying has several advantages over other food preservation methods. Frozen foods retain fresh flavor and nutritional value, but require uniform, low temperature storage conditions. Dehydrated and canned foods are shelf-stable, but high-temperature processing can degrade flavor, texture, and nutritional content.Freeze-drying combines the best of these processing methods. It preserves freshness, color, and aroma similar to frozen food, while providing the shelf-stable convenience of canned or dehydrated food. Because of the complexity of the freeze-drying process, freeze-dried foods are often more expensive than dehydrated foods.

What are the Benefits of Freeze-Dried Foods?

Tastes Fresh. Freeze-dried foods, like frozen foods, retain virtually the same flavor profile and nutritional composition as the fresh food. Freeze-drying removes the water, not the flavor.Looks Fresh. Freeze-dried foods maintain their original shape and texture, unlike dehydrated foods, which shrink and shrivel due to high-temperature processing. Freeze-drying removes water under low temperatures (typically a maximum of 100° – 130° F), which keeps intact the moisture channels and food fibers. Just add water, and in minutes, every fresh food attribute returns.Stays Fresh. Freeze-dried foods can be stored at room temperature, without deterioration or spoilage. Freeze-drying and packaging remove both water and oxygen—the two primary causes of food deterioration.Lightweight. Freeze-dried foods have approximately 98% of their water removed. This reduces the food’s weight by approximately 90%, making it easier to handle and less costly to ship. For example, 25 pounds of celery weighs only one pound after freeze-drying.

Why Are Paleo Meals To Go Premium Price?

Products that adhere to a Paleo diet, like many other specialty diets, including organic, gluten free, raw, whole, and clean, source pure, high-quality ingredients and proteins optimal for your health. In turn, they are often more expensive than cheap grains and filler ingredients used to manufacture products that are not only detrimental to your health, but also contain the top eight allergens. As the adage goes, an investment in your health is the best wealth.

Why Isn't Shipping Cheaper?

We’ve had several folks who are early planners and who order well in advance of their hiking, camping, or backpacking trips ask us why they need to pay for Priority Mail and why we don’t offer a less expensive shipping option. Upon further investigation we discovered that in most cases using Standard Post (when it is even an available option) only saves from $0.50-$1.50 on most orders and increases the shipping time from 2-3 days (in the US) to 6-10 days (in the US). We decided it would cause more issues if people chose Standard Post and their packages took 6-10 days to arrive. It’s probably worth an extra dollar to receive your delicious Paleo Meals To Go in a couple days.

The shelf life for Cliffside Coconut Berry, Butte Cacao Banana, and Palisade Pineapple Mango is 9 months and 15 months for Apex Fruit Snacks.

What is the Weight of the Rehydrated Meals?
